Manuel Betancourt

Manuel Betancourt is a Los Angeles-based queer Colombian writer and film critic. He’s the author of The Male Gazed: On Hunks, Heartthrobs, and What Pop Culture Taught Me About (Desiring) Men (Catapult, 2023), named one of the best books of 2023 by Time magazine, NPR and them; and most recently, Hello Stranger: Musings on Modern Intimacies (Catapult, 2025) which The New York Times called a “persuasive and well-researched disquisition on the edifying and seductive potential of those we don’t yet know.”
