About

AFM

AFM is a A Fucking Magazine

afm-foreword

A Fucking Magazine (AFM) is an arts and literary magazine. We publish essays, fiction, poetry, conversations, and visual art, as well as pieces that live in the margins between them.

We created AFM as a space to take sexuality seriously in culture, giving desire and the erotic room to breathe. And we wanted to do it with work that delights, inspires, and—most importantly—pleases. We’re published by Feeld, the dating app for the emotionally, physically, and intellectually curious.

You can find a list of our current stockists here. We’re distributed by Antenne Books (UK and Europe) and Ra & Olly (US).

Contact us at [email protected], we’d love to be in touch. Out pitch guidelines are below.

Pitch Guidelines

We welcome submissions of written and visual work across genres, and formats, spanning arts and culture, society, and politics. We’re interested in work that provokes and seduces, probing those dynamics that manage to encompass philosophical or theoretical musings on big themes (like intimacy, sex, coupling, befriending, defriending) and bigger feelings (like desire, rejection, indifference, heartache, jealousy).

For a sense of the kinds of things we publish, read Hannah Black on the romance of mothering, Paul McAdory on the art of penis enlargement, and Sarah Nicole Prickett on listening to Burial with a lover.

We publish print issues on a seasonal basis, with each issue centered on a specific theme. Submissions for print are currently closed but will reopen in early 2027, so please check back here then. We publish online pieces on an ongoing basis and submissions are currently open.

Contributors of all experience levels are encouraged to pitch—we love to be surprised. And we especially enjoy publishing work by Feeld members so if you are one, please mention it in your pitch (though this is by no means a requirement).

We are unable to accept work that has been published elsewhere. We will do our best to respond to all pitches in a reasonable time frame, but if you have not received a response within four weeks, you are welcome to take the pitch elsewhere, with our regrets.

Non-fiction

We published essays, features, profiles, and interviews, as well as pieces that stretch these classifications. Pieces typically run between 1,000 and 3,000 words, occasionally longer.

In addition to general non-fiction pitches, we also publish pieces within two dedicated digital columns:

Text Me When You’re Done is a series in which a writer tells us about the things they turn to as a way of explaining who they are—the works of art, articles of interest, or other tangible elements that they refer to and share with others as a way of getting to know and better understanding them. What book do you always give a new crush to better know you by, and why?

Erogenous Zones is a series about exploring, interpreting, and appreciating the material, tactile, and sensual dimensions of pleasure. In it, contributors describe an action or event—like the feel of a shirt cuff on the wrist or being driven around in a fast car or taking in daily sunsets—that brought them closer to the sensual, erotic, or sensory experience of being alive.

We pay $1/word. Please send your non-fiction pitches to [email protected], along with a short bio.

Fiction

We welcome fiction submissions, either short stories or self-contained excerpts from longer novels or novellas. Fiction pieces typically run up to a maximum of 5,000 words. All submissions will be considered for both our print and online editions. We pay a flat fee of $1500 per story.

We accept fiction submissions via this form.

Poetry

All poetry submissions will be considered for both our print and online editions. We pay $500 per poem. Please only submit a maximum of six poems, saved in a single document.

We accept poetry submissions via this form.

Visual work/Photography

We are always looking for visual material to accompany both the above categories and as stand-alone photo essays/art portfolios. Artists, illustrators, and photographers may send material for consideration at any time. Our starting rates for photography commissions and photo essays are $500 per day/visual asset.

To pitch a visual editorial, please email [email protected].
