AFM is created by and for our readers, Feeld Members, and their wider communities. We are always looking to publish new work from contributors of all kinds—whether that’s essays, art, fiction, poetry, photography, or any medium you can think of. Here’s where you can find everything you’ll need to know to send us your ideas.
Start here:
- We especially want to publish work by Feeld Members, so please let us know if you are one. All are welcome, but if you’ve ever been a Member or are considering joining, we’d love to know about it.
- With that in mind, all contributors are offered a 6-month complimentary Majestic Membership as part of their compensation. You can also use this with your partnered accounts.
- We welcome contributors of all experiences, and all mediums. Any content for the magazine can be pitched as a series of graphic designs, illustrations, text, or photography. If you’re interested in other mediums, like video or audio, email [email protected] with more details.
- We solicit and accept pitches for the digital version of AFM on an ongoing basis, and the print edition of AFM is published biannually. Deadlines will be provided by your editor upon the acceptance of a pitch, but if you have a time-sensitive story idea, please be sure to put that in the subject of your email line.
- Every editorial work is published on AFM’s website, whether it is for print and digital or exclusively digital. We pay the same rates for all accepted work.
- All rates are starting points for negotiation. If you have a question or request about compensation, please be sure to discuss that with us in your pitch.
- All guidelines are suggestions, and we’re always open to and encouraging of ideas that divert from the descriptions below. Surprise us!
Below is a list of categories for editorial work and their corresponding rates.
- Fiction: starting flat fee of $800USD.
- Poetry: starting flat fee of $500USD.
- Essays, features, profiles, interviews: $1/word, with a typical word count of 1500-2000 words.
We are always looking for visual material to publish, both as accompaniments to the above categories and as stand-alone photo essays/art portfolios. Our starting rates for visuals are:
Photography commissions and essays: $500/day rate.
- Any additional expenses for pre- or post-production will be negotiated after the commission has been accepted and a scope-of-work has been agreed on.
- Art/design commissions: $500/visual asset.
- Creative production rates are negotiated based on the assignment and scope-of-work. If you are a producer looking to pitch a visual editorial, please email [email protected] for more information.
We also have columns that are open to accepting pitches. They include the following:
In A Week on Feeld, a Feeld Member keeps a diary of their experiences during an uninterrupted week using Feeld. This series is intended to build an archive exploring what it’s really like to be a Feeld Member. We’re looking for all kinds of Members to write about all kinds of interactions and experiences. Submissions can be anonymous or under your own byline. Our preferred word count is maximum 1500 words, but can be as short as you’d like, and the starting rate is $500USD.
Feeld Guides are a series of informative and educational articles about a wide range of different topics that intersect with sex, sexuality, gender, health, wellness, community, labor, culture, and more. They provide some kind of tangible knowledge or suggested guidance, in a generous, open manner, about a subject of interest to the Feeld community. These articles involve a certain amount of research and reporting, whether that’s referencing trusted citations or performing interviews with relevant experts. Our preferred word count is between 800 to 1500 words, and the starting rate is $800USD.
Text Me When You’re Done is a series in which a writer tells us about the things they turn to as a way of explaining who they are—the works of art, articles of interests, or other tangible elements that they refer to and share with others as a way of getting to know and better understanding them. What book do you always give a new crush to better know you by, and why? What song changed the course of a friendship, and how? Our preferred word count is between 800 and 1500 words, and the starting rate is $800USD.
Erogenous Zones is a series about exploring, interpreting, and appreciating the material, tactile, and sensual dimensions of pleasure. In it, contributors describe an action or event—like clubbing or cooking for loved ones, the feel of a shirt cuff on the wrist or the smell of a certain fragrance, being driven around in a fast car or taking in daily sunsets—that brought them closer to the sensual, erotic, or sensory experience of being alive. Our preferred word count is between 800 to 1500 words, and the starting rate is $800USD.
First Person is a series of autobiographical essays. We like to read about people discovering something new, or finding something new in what they thought they already knew; about relationships of all kinds, whether they’re intimate or distant, platonic or romantic, sexy or sweet—we especially love those dynamics that manage to encompass, at one point or another, all of the above; philosophical or theoretical musings on big themes and bigger feelings; an individual response to art and culture, whether that’s a particular work of art or entertainment, an artist’s oeuvre, a cultural trend, or even an entire genre or medium itself. Our preferred word count is between 1000-1500 words, and the starting rate is $800USD.
Anything else. We are also open to pitches that fall entirely outside of these parameters. Try us!
We will do our best to respond to all pitches in a reasonable time frame, but if you have not received a response within three weeks, please feel free to follow up with us. If you have not received a response within four weeks, you are welcome to take the pitch elsewhere, with our regrets.
